Gotham Villains

Halloween on suosikkiaikana vuodesta. Rakastan vanhoja klassikoita kuten Hoccus Poccusta, Beetlejuicea, Painajainen ennen joulua.. Vietän yleensä koko lokakuun katsoen noita/vampyyri jne aiheisia elokuvia, koristellen kämppää lepakoilla ja muilla teemaan sopivilla koristeilla. Olen myös nyt innostunut hirveästi ostelemaan PUG:in Halloween mallistosta muutamia valikoituja paloja, jotka onneksi olivat alennuksessa molemmilla ostokerroilla, niin ei liikaa köyhtynyt (vaikka kyllä köyhdyin ihan riittämiin).

Halloween is my favorite time of the year. I love all the old movies classics Hoccus Poccus, Beetlejuice, Nightmare before Christmas etc. I always spent my October just wathing films with vampires and stuff and decorating my home. Also this year I bought a bucnh of Halloween inspired clothes from Pinup Girl Clothing. Thankfully at both times they were on sale, so I didn't loose too much money (all though my wallet is really empty anyay right now).

Toinen paras asia Halloweenissa on pukeutuminen. Aikaisempina vuosina olen ollut muun muassa vampyyritappaja, Minni Hiiri ja Herttakuningatar. Viime vuodeksi minulla oli asu valmiina, mutta se jäikin sitten käyttämättä, kun kaverit peruivatkin Halloween juhlat juuri pari päivää aiemmin. Olin erittäin pettynyt ja lupasin itselleni, että tänä vuonna kyllä en jää rannalle roikkumaan. Ja en jäänyt! Jo hyvissä ajoin alkusyksystä aloimme kaveriporukan kesken keskustelemaan Tampereen Horror and Tease tapahtumasta, joka tänä vuonna olisi myös selkeästi suurempi tapahtuma, kuin mitä aiempina vuosina (jotka on yleensä olleet heti loppuunmyytyjä). Ostimme heti liput, kun ne tulivat myyntiin ja aloimme suunnittelemaan asuja. Alun perin tarkoituksenani oli ottaa viime vuoden asuni käyttöön, mutta se jäikin nyt odottelemaan tulevia vuosia, sillä yksi seurueestamme sai loistavan idean. Pukeudutaan porukalla samanlaiseen teemaan! Eikä teeman etsimiseen mennyt kuin sekunti, sillä olimme kaikki yksimielisiä siitä, että pahikset on meidän juttu. Ja ketkä onkaan parhaimmat pahikset? Gothamin pahikset.

The second best thing about Halloween is dressing up. I've been Minnie Mouse, the Queen of Hearts and a Vampire Slayer. Last year I also had a costume ready but my friends cancelled the party two days before. I was really upset and desided that this year I will not be staying home. And this year I didn't! Early autumn me and a few friends, We started planning a trip to Tampere to see the  Horror and Tease burlesque event. This year it was bigger, because the last few years it was always sold out right away. So we bought our tickets as soon as they came out and started to plan our costumes. At first I thought to use mine from last year, but suddenly one of the girls had an idea for us to all dress up as something matching and we all agreed to be villains. And who would be best villains than the villains of Gotham city?

Vaihtoehtoina oli toteuttaa rooli, joko sellaisena kuin se oli tai muokata mieshahmosta naisversio. Jo-Jo:n piti olla alun perin ihan alkuperäinen Harley Quinn, mutta kun hänen suunnittelemansa asu ei koskaan saapunut paikalle (ja jännitti vähän, onko muutenkin monia versioita tänä vuonna sattuneesta syystä liikenteessä), hän valitsi naispuolisen Arvuuttelijan omaksi roolikseen. Joylicious halusi olla alkuperäinen Harvey "Two-Face" Dent, Shirley valitsi roolikseen naispuolisen Pingviinin ja alunperin Sandran piti olla Jokeri, mutta valitettavasti hän ei päässyt mykaan. Itse palloilin hetken Kissanaisen ja Myrkkymuratin välillä, kunnes valitsin jälkimmäisen. Valintaan vaikutti eniten se, että olisin halunnut olla ihan kunnon Kissanainen nahkapuvussa ja naamiossa, mutta kun mahiksia kyseisiä asusteita hankkimaan ei nyt ollut niin päätin siirtyä punapään rooliin ennemmin.

We thought we could either be the original character or make female versions of the male characters. Jo-Jo was supposed to be the original Harley Quinn from the comic book series, but there was some problems with her costume (and also she was kinda excited if there woud be some many Harley Quinn's anyway because of the movie), she changed her costume to be the female version of the Riddler. Joylicious was the original male character Harvey "Two-Face" Dent and Shirley was the female version of Penguin, also Sandra was supposed to be Joker but unfortunately she could not attend. I myself was torn between Catwoman and Poison Ivy until I choce Poison Ivu, because if I were Catwoman I would have wanted to do the whole leather suit and leather mask thingy and there just was no chance for that right now.

No mites sitten asu? Palloilin pitkään, kuinka lähtisin sitä toteuttamaan. Otanko haalarin, teenkö mekon? Sitten tulin siihen tulokseen, että otan vaikutteita alkuperäisestä sarjakuvahahmosta ja teen korsetin. Korsetti löytyi edullisesti paikallisen face-kirpparin kautta tutulta, feikit muratin lehdet ostin kaupasta ja Punanaamiosta sukkahousut. Murattiköynnöksiä kyseiseen asuun meni neljä kappaletta. Olisin halunnut alushousutkin liimata, mutta lehdet loppuivat kesken, enkä viitsinyt enää viidettä köynnöstä ostaa, joten tyydyin mustiin hipstereihin (ei muuten löytynyt mistään myrkynvihreitä alushousuja tai bikinin alaosia). Liimailu meni vähän nokalleen myöskin kun 10 vuotta vanhasta kuumaliima pistoolistani loppui liimat ja ostin uudet, jotka olivatkin liian pienet niin jouduin niitä käsin pruuttaamaan itse pistoolin läpi lehtiin (ja poltin sormeni useamman kerran). Hyvin pysyi lehdet kyllä kuumaliimalla, tosin sitten kiristysvaiheessa muutama vähän jäi irvistämään, mutta ei onneksi lähtenyt irti asti.

So, costume making. I was torn between should I make a bodysuit or a dress? But becuase Uma Thurman is one of my favorite actressess to play Poison Ivy, I found that making a corset would be the best thing for this event. I found a cheap second hand corset, bought 4 pieces of  vines and used hot-setting adhesive to glue them on. It worked good but I needed to buy more glue and the cartridges were too small so I had to push them though the glue pistol myself and got mu fingers burned many times before I was finally ready. Also I should have wanted to glue my pants too but there were not enough leaves for it and I coudn't find any green bikinis either so I just went with black shorts and green thights.

Palloilin myös sen välillä, askartelenko / tilaanko kulmiin lehdet jollaset Uma Thurmanilla oli leffassa, mutta lopulta päätin vain tyytyä meikkaamaan silmät muistuttamaan lehtiä. Hiukset laitoin terävämmälle victory rollssille, jotta pystyin hakemaan pientä leffavibaa, mutta samalla tuomaan jonkun sorttista "fiftari-vivahdetta" asuun. 

I was also considering the green eyebrows Uma wore in the Batman movies, but desided to just use green make-up for my eyes to create some sort of leaves around them. I set my hair on bigger pointier victory rolls, so I could get some small vibe from the movie but also at the same time have the little pin-up vibe going on.

Teimme siis perinteisen yhden yön Tampere reissun, joka alkoi lauantai-aamuna ja päättyi sunnuntai-aamuna kotimatkalle. Tampereella vietimme päivän ensin shoppaillen, sitten kun Omena-hotelliin pääsi klo 16 siirryimme sinne laittautumaan ja kävelimme Tampereen Klubille tapahtumaa seuraamaan. Esitykset olivat kyllä mahtavia ja oli oikein mukava nähdä, miten upeasti ihmiset olivat panostaneet asuihinsa. Myös Katri Kallio Photography oli paikalla pienellä pop-up studiolla kuvaamassa vieraita 10€/kuva. Kävimme porukalla pöyrähtämässä myös siinä ja otimme Shirleyn kanssa vielä kaksin kuvan myös, hän oli jo asunsa ikuistanut pari viikkoa aiemmin Katrin kuvaamana, kun oli saanut ystävältään lahjakortin kyseiselle kuvaajalle. 

So, anyway. We did our traditional trip to Tampere. We traveled satuday morning, did some shopping and in the afternoon we went to the hotel and got ourselves ready for the night. The Club in which the Halloween Burlesque event was held was really near so we could just walk there. There were so many people dressed up amazingly in all kinds of costumes, the burlesqe performers were amazing and we had really fun meeting and seeing people. There was also a pop-up studio by Katri Kallio Phtogoraphy where you could have your picture taken for 10 euros a piece. So we took one group photo, I took one solo photo and we took one with Shirley together since she already had her costume photographed by Katri earlier, when she got a gift card from her friend.
